Dear Prospective Student,
We know that this is an exciting time for you and your family as you begin to map out a new phase in life and begin making significant moves towards adulthood. As you consider the possibilities for your high school career we encourage you to take up the task of your education with the assurance that you are called towards great heights.
What is The Summit Academy?
We are an independent, classical, college preparatory high school for young men and women, with a vision of providing single-sex instruction on a shared coeducational campus. Our mission is rooted in the Catholic Tradition. We offer a unique opportunity to develop the mind and body in a profound education experience that engages the whole person.
How is The Summit Unique?
Although we are a new institution, we provide a rich academic program based on the Great Books and Liberal Arts Traditions that have withstood the test of time. Our curriculum, course track, and most fundamentally our instruction in the classroom (and beyond) are structured to strengthen our students’ engagement with the world.
We utilize single-sex instruction and offer small class sizes where students will work with original sources and texts and learn through active participation in Socratic seminars. We provide a rigorous education in our language, math, and science program, as well as fine arts and performance, speech and debate. In addition, we integrate our own outdoor leadership program to educate our students in a way that is rigorous and lateral.
Our students become strong and deep critical thinkers as they engage in an expert guidance in the Liberal Arts.
The Summit is an Education Towards Freedom
We are committed to the lordship of Jesus Christ and this is in no way extraneous to the question of academic excellence. The questions of education ultimately come down to the human questions. Who are we, and what is our place in the world? What are we doing and why are we doing it?
Man cannot truly know himself or the world in which he lives without seeking to know his origin, namely the One in whose image he or she is made.
Christ cannot rightly be held up as the center of students’ lives (academic or otherwise) if He is not simultaneously seen as the center of reason, history, and existence, and if He is not understood as satisfying the longings ingrained in mankind.
An education that teaches students to reason will be both faithfully Catholic and equip them to succeed in life.
Our mission is to ground students in an education that opens them to the realization of who they are called to be in Christ.
What they are called to be is nothing short of the very Glory of God. As Saint Ireneaus proclaims in our school motto: “The Glory of God is Man Fully Alive”
The Summit is looking for students who are motivated to learn, eager to serve, and can be equipped to lead. We invite you to check out Key Dates for Open Houses, Shadow Days and Information Sessions at http://summitacademyva.org/admissions/
